VGA, DVI port on LCD monitor?

I’m having trouble setting up my Asus VH226 H/C monitor. First of all, I can plug the DVI cord into the port without a problem, but I can’t seem to find a port for the VGA cord. Second, when I do plug the DVI cord in, it says, “DVI No Signal.” What does this mean? What am I doing wrong?

I want to run ANYTHING for the next year on at least high quality, maybe not extreme for the newer games coming out. Will everything there run properly together and are there any parts you would change to either save money or provide an amazing price increase. My favorite brands are ASUS and Razer, my least favorites are Logitech and Dell.
