5.1 surround sound from a Hd media player when connected to my LCD Tv ?

Hi I m planing to buy a Hd media player (Asus O play mini or Amkette Flash TV HD). I Have 32″ Pansonic LCD Viera 32 LX c70 and Lg dvd player with 5.1 home theatre (2006 model) attached to dvd player.There are 6 cables from the speakers and end of each cable is exposed split in red n black connected to dvd player.Now i want to connect the HD media player to my tv and 5.1 speaker system omitting the dvd player. First How do i connect 5.1 speakers to hd player and will i be able to hear 5.1 surround sound from the hd media player ?
